WISCONSIN: TOO MANY PRISONERS?
Wisconsin has 23,000 people in prison. Minnesota has 9,000. Are we safer for it? We are surely poorer. Now, there is a movement to cut our prison population in half. Would that be better for families and communities?
Or is the idea an open invitation to crime?

DYING WISELY AND WELL
As Americans near death, we tend to go for aggressive medical care.
It may slow the inevitable but in costly and sometimes undignified ways.
Yet we want miracles. And we’re terrified of rationing.
Are there compassionate alternatives?
Can we embrace policies that help us die wisely and well?

ENEMIES EVERYWHERE:
POLITICS AS WARFARE

Politics in Wisconsin seem to have degraded into a toxic mix of money, ideology and ego. Now two senators, a Republican and a Democrat, have set out to find common ground. Can they overcome Madison’s battlefield mentality?

GREENING OUR FOOD DESERTS
Poor people and poor nutrition are entwined.
Too often, the poor live in food deserts, where healthy food has disappeared. Can food oases be created? And will residents partake of healthy, fresh food?
